Mathew Aquilina is a registered Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor based in the Illawarra region of NSW, with experience across not-for-profit and private settings. As Clinical Team Manager with Gidget Foundation Australia, Mathew provides clinical support, supervision, and professional development for clinicians dedicated to perinatal mental health.
Throughout his career, Mathew has held senior roles in service development and delivery, including the establishment and implementation of rural and regional mental health services funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care. In these positions, he has overseen multidisciplinary teams and provided mentoring to emerging clinicians, fostering both service growth and professional capacity.
Mathew brings to Gidget Foundation Australia a particular passion for perinatal and infant mental health, with a strong focus on men’s wellbeing and the unique role of fathers during the perinatal period. He is currently undertaking Higher Degree Research at the University of Wollongong, exploring the impact of couple-based and attachment-informed perinatal interventions on family adjustment.
His clinical training is comprehensive, including specialist education through the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) and the Perinatal Training Centre. He is an accredited Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) facilitator and a Becoming Us parent education facilitator. Mathew’s therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy.
