We have been blessed with three: two boys and a girl. A beautiful little girl who is everywhere and nowhere. Her name is spoken aloud every day in our house.
Innocent questions like "How many children do you have?" are ones we pause before answering. We lost our little girl unexpectedly. At the 38-week check-up all was fine, yet somehow over the next few days she silently slipped away.
Our then three-year-old son had been counting down to becoming a big brother, and felt her loss just as deeply as we did. Our Gidget Clinician helped us navigate how to talk to our son about stillbirth, and helped us answer his heartfelt questions: "Why didn't the baby come on my birthday?", "How did she get to heaven?".
My Gidget Clinician continued to support me during my subsequent pregnancy with my third child and helped me decide on a birth plan, acknowledged any stress and anxiety around milestones, and provided beautiful suggestions for remembering and incorporating our baby girl into our family. For this, we are forever grateful.
